Culture Science! Memetics!
We tend to think of culture and the economy as separate things, but what if that’s not the case?
Culture science is a theoretical framework developed by Hartley & Potts (2014) that studies culture as a knowledge-making system rather than just artistic expression or social customs.
And my argument is that culture also drives the economy, the foundation of all of our lives. They are inextricably linked.
Think of it this way: every day you vote with your money, your time, your energy, and your relationships for the world you believe is possible.
Like the elephant whose power is held in check with a tiny rope tied to a sapling, we are held in to the status quo by what we imagine is possible.
And what drives those beliefs? Primarily stories.
